Football fans eat roughly 1.4 billion chicken wings during the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, this comes at quite the cost for chickens worldwide.
A farmed chicken’s life is not a life worth living.
More chickens are raised and killed for food than all other land animals combined. Birds raised for their flesh are bred to grow large so fast that some have difficulty walking under their body’s unnatural weight. Many are never allowed to go outside and feel the sunshine. They never get the opportunity to just “be a chicken” and live naturally, establishing a pecking order and nesting comfortably.
BUT, there is great news: we do not need to support the poultry industry to enjoy amazing Super Bowl food on game day! You can still enjoy your game day spread (including “wings”) while leaving the cruelty off your plate.
Try out these amazing Vegan Buffalo Cauliflower “Wings.” Your vegan friends at the party will thank you — as well as your carnivorous ones! These tasty treats will please any palate.
Ingredients
- 1 large head cauliflower, cut into florets
- Olive oil
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 6 tbsp Plant Milk of Choice (unsweetened)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 cup buffalo sauce or hot sauce
- 1-4 tsp Olive oil or Plant butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment. Spray florets with oil spray or toss with a little olive oil. Place in a large ziploc bag. Toss with the flour and garlic powder until evenly coated.
Finely crush your breadcrumbs. Add the plant milk of choice and then the breadcrumbs to the cauliflower and toss to coat. Arrange in one layer in the baking sheet place and bake on the center rack 25 minutes.
Combine the oil or melted butter spread with the buffalo sauce (because the fat helps the sauce adhere to the cauliflower). Dip cauliflower in sauce. Bake another 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, switch to broil for up to 5 additional minutes. (Be sure to watch closely so they don’t burn or you’ll be sad.)
Serve with vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing. My personal favorite is the brand “Follow your Heart.” Bon Appetit!
